Fitting the larger fishfinder transducers to the factory recesses in any fishing kayak does not always give the best result if covers need to be used to protect them. Even more so with the sidescan transducers that can’t be flush mounted.
Pro Staffer dan “Flying Fish TV” was having trouble with his transducer mounted to the Hobie Lowrance ready plate which also had a protective cover. Reading was not as good as he hoped and was constantly needing to clear out sand and debris caught in the cover which was also affecting the reading.
As covered in his video below, the solution for installing the extra-large Garmin 74cv transducer for disturbance-free readings was to use the RAILBLAZA Transducer Arm. The transducer arm allows the transducer to be set to the correct depth for 100% true reading and is completely removable.
I decided to use a Railblaza transducer arm and side port mount to give the transducer arm an unrestricted view to the bottom, Dan
The other advantage for Dan is he no longer needs to worry about collecting sand or debris due to the fact the arm allows you to swing it out of harm’s way when launching and landing your fishing kayak or simply pack it into a storage compartment for surf transitions etc…
